This week, Jaz, Lauren and I successfully completed our video and after much debate over its title we agreed on 'The Afterlife'. We found a final music track titled 'Glory Theme' from Razvan Veina's album 'The Magic Pearl', and an improved car crash sound, both on Jamendo, a royalty-free sound site - www.jamendo.com/ We replaced the funeral shot that we realized was going to cause legal issues with a shot we found on fotopedia - http://www.fotopedia.com

Essay Plan!
I have chosen to answer question 4 for my essay. I will be discussing how is new communication technology impacting on screen narratives in terms of production, distribution, story length and structure and emotional content? What options are emerging that point to the kinds of narratives we might expect to see in the future?
I found the lecture on the development of film over time particularly interesting which is why I chose this for my essay topic. I am also interested in the production side of flim making as well as enjoying being in front of the camera. Before having researched, my position is that new communication technologies has negatively effected the hollywood film industry and the industry needs to adapt to the continual growth in technology. With adaptation, the industry will know how to use new technologies to its advantage.

John Hartley's political theory that we are 'citezens of the media' is evident with the success of tv shows such as Big Brother, X Factor, Australian Idol and Australia's Got Talent. These shows prove that people are still comitted to democracy because the shows ask viewers to participate and vote for their favourite personalities. Despite the developed lack of interest in political news programs and the growing ignorance of politics in general, Hartley's theory demonstrates that the Australian community does still support the democratic system that runs the country.
A recent development in the last twenty years shows democracy works best when there is maximum debate (Stockwell, S 2011). This finding demonstrates some cosmopolitanism because although there are so many different political and religious views in one community, it can be openly debated and discussed. This is the practice of people doing things together. With judges and hosts running these entertainment shows, debate amongst them is always evident and often targeted for screening. Although they have different opinions on individual performances, they openly discuss their views with each other and with the performers and a debate is in action.

Week 8 - Tutorial Task
Time to Edit!
After an initial hiccup of not having Jazmine's phone chord to transfer the footage from her phone to Lauren's computer which had microsoft movie maker we realized we could simply email the photos from her phone to Lauren's computer - problem solved! We then faced the issue that we couldn't use 'Bitter-sweet Symphony' like we'd hoped due to copyright issues...how we didn't think of that earlier i don't know!
So while Lauren began tranferring all the footage into the movie making program, Jaz and I searched for royalty-free music available on the internet. We were able to find a few good tracks but nothing for the second half of our production. Because there was audio in the shots we'd taken that we didn't want heard, Lauren was able to remove the audio and insert the track we had chosen for the beginning. We then played around with the timing of individual shots and did some cutting to allow the film to flow.
Next week we must finalize our music and make any final changes before the class viewing.

It is not illegal to share food or clothes or recipes, why should it be illegal to share software?
Sharing recipies and making an exact replica of a dress you love may seem no different to sharing software. However, when a recipe is used to make a cake, the orginial cake is not made, but a copy. The same applies in the creation of the same clothing item. However, when software is shared, the original code is taken and the original software is illegally shared.
Music is illegally purchased every day, all over the world. There are now several existing programs that allow music to be illegally copied. Interestingly, David Kusek and Gerd Leonhard predict that in the future, music will be much like water and electricity in the way that it will become such a necessity that there will be a small monthly fee on top of other house hold costs that will provide home owners with unlimited access to music (Kusek, D and Leonhard, G 2005, 'The Future of Music: Manifesto for the Digital Music Revolution', Journal of High Technology Law, p. 193)
The music industry is already suffering due to the illegal purchasing of music and fear that this prediction for the not-so-distant future will only decline sales even more.

Week 7 - Tutorial Task
Video Progress
Being the second, and second last time our group would meet before presenting our videos to the class in week 9, we wasted no time and planned individual scenes, exactly what shots were needed, and what text was required in the first 15 minutes of class. We then used Jasmine's iphone to capture the footage on the uni grounds. As Jazmine was dressed best for the part, she became an actor, as did a lucky young man who passed by and said he had 5 minutes to spare. We shot close-up shots which would look the most professional when putting the whole production together. We also thought to change Jaz's top so it didn't look like we shot the film all on one day. Most of the text that we wanted included in the video was to be in txt message and email so we again used Jaz's phone to film my phone which held the txt messages and filmed the computer screen containing the email.
This was all we had time for today but we plan to meet an hour before class next week so we have a solid three hours to upload the footage and start the editing process.

Wikipedia is a wrongly discredited source. While facts should be confirmed by other sources before being accepted as fact, Wikipedia provides the basic understanding of a search item. With views of more then one million per day (Rosenzweig, R 2006), statistics show the forums popularity among internet surfers.
Many people question how online forums gain profit by providing a free service to inquisitive online consumers. It's simple - advertisement. The more views a site gets, the more popular a site is. The more popular a site is, the more companies want to advertise on that site. The more companies that want to advertise on the site, the higher the owner of the site can charge for the advertisement space. So a website craves views and popularity in order to attract advertisement clients to provide the big dollars.

Week 6 - Tutorial Task
This week we were given the task to create a short AV video with the theme of new communication technologies, for obvious reasons. After forming groups, Jaz, Lauren and I began brainstorming ideas. We agreed on creating a trailor for a movie, working with the concept of the rapid development of technology over time and the future posibilities for technology. By the end of class we had finalised that the trailor would be for a movie about a married couple whose lives are changed when the man suddently dies. However, due to the technological advances come 2121, the couple are able to keep in contact via technology. Who knows, it could happen...
We were original thinking a little to largely and forgetting we wouldn't be able to produce a hollywood production in three short weeks and with the materials we had available to us. We wanted to use footage from the matrix and also a funeral scene from a movie but realized we would face copyright issues so we agreed we'd shoot all our own footage and limit the images and incooperate more text than we initially planned.
We aren't worried about defamation because we had created a new idea and there were no aspects of harming anyones reputation involved. I know other groups were including facebook and other social medias in their production concept and they are the groups who would possibly have to consider the dangers of defamation.
